[00:00:00] Speaker A: WVUAFM Tuscaloosa. [00:00:16] Speaker B: Welcome into the low tide here on 90.7 the Capstone. Nicholas Pursley, Adam Hambright, Elliot Miller, as always. Well, I shouldn't even say that. We're back once again. [00:00:26] Speaker C: Are we? [00:00:27] Speaker B: That's what, that's what they're saying. They're saying we might be back. [00:00:30] Speaker D: Streets have said that we might be back, but we always go on a hiatus. [00:00:33] Speaker C: But is this, is this like, you know, Lakers back with Luka Donches or is this Texas's back? [00:00:39] Speaker D: You know, like the Mavericks are bad. [00:00:42] Speaker B: I mean, like, both of those have negative connotations. [00:00:45] Speaker D: The Mavericks are back with, with ad a Disney. Yeah. [00:00:49] Speaker B: Win now move a Disney 10 HP. [00:00:52] Speaker D: Well, would you say, Nick, in your honest opinion, that the new furniture, the new setup, is that a win now move for 90.7 the capstone. [00:00:58] Speaker B: No, you know, it's definitely. I feel like, you know, we're stacked. We're. We're getting a future franchise player, you know, Right. Like, we're, we're building the foundation. You know, we're starting. Trust the process. [00:01:09] Speaker D: So it's, it's the 2029 first round pick. [00:01:11] Speaker C: What kind of wood is this? [00:01:13] Speaker B: You know, I figured I would ask y'all. [00:01:16] Speaker C: You know, Elliot's a weather expert. Nick might be the wood. [00:01:20] Speaker D: The wood expert. [00:01:23] Speaker B: Oh, man, we're off to an absolute Nick Wood expert. [00:01:26] Speaker D: Personally, I cannot believe this. [00:01:29] Speaker B: I. I can't. I'm not even going to comment on that. Well, we are back. Somehow some things rolled on by thread, but this is the low tide on 90.7, the capstone. We're back. Alabama basketball, they might be back. They've gone on a nice little, what are they, five game win streak now after the loss to Ole Miss. They just beat Georgia the other night, 90 to 69. Mark Sears has a big game, especially considering all the things that have been going on with him. Obviously you had those kind of. You had him seemingly get benched in the second half and then, you know, his mom posting stuff on, what was it, Facebook or Instagram or something. You know, I think a lot of that we just read too much into. Right. People get emotional. People care. Right. Like, that's. I always thought that when, you know, people got emotional, that was always a good sign because it really means that they care and it means a lot to them. But thoughts on Alabama basketball, you know, bouncing back after that loss to Ole Miss, the recent strike. [00:02:33] Speaker D: I'll go, I guess since Adam so graciously has handed it over to me, you know, it's one of those things it's encouraging to see. There's that really tough stretch here at the end of the year. And so you want to limit obviously those number of losses that you could because they could be seen as deflating. But to stack, like you said, five wins in a row after losing at, I believe he was at home to Ole Miss, obviously that's, that's something to look forward to. Now granted, I will say this upcoming game against Arkansas, after watching what they did when they walked into Kentucky and did that, I mean, I'm not going to say it's a trap game or anything. Right. But, you know, stay on your heels. The SEC, I think, is a gauntlet this year. I saw something like the projections of like the percentage of how likely it is for each team in every conference to make the tournament. And like the. Almost every SEC team was on that list. I think there was like two that had like below 50%. [00:03:30] Speaker C: Yeah, it looks like, you know, the SEC is going to have probably their best year of basketball history. It looks like it so far. We'll see how many actually get into the tournament. Now for Alabama, out of two of the last three games, they finally hit over ten three pointers in the game. For those people that think that they have to hit three pointers to win, I mean, they've been doing it all year with lower field goal percentage from beyond the three point range, but two out of the last three over ten three pointers in those games. And then like you said, five game winning streak. They have two games on the road this week. So they have the game in Fayetteville, which I don't know which Arkansas team is going to show up, is going to be the one that showed up against Kentucky. Is it going to be the one that showed up in every other SEC game this year? Like they only cared about beating Kentucky, who knows? But then they got a game at Austin Texas before you get the game that everybody's really looking forward to. The Iron bowl of basketball, Auburn at home. And excuse me, that Texas game is actually next week. It is next Tuesday. So only one game this week? Well, we have. They have the game at Fayetteville Saturday and then Texas at Texas on the following Tuesday and then Auburn on that next Saturday. Anyway, so two road games before you get possibly the best team in the nation. You know, they're going to be ranked. They are ranked number one right now. So that'll be an interesting matchup. Like how does this team keep playing especially so what against Georgia, right? 20 turnovers still won by 21 points, but you can't make 20 turnovers, you know, on the road, and especially against Auburn. So it'll be an interesting, you know, continuing stretch. What was it like every game from here on out against a quad one opponent? Like, it's, you know, one of the toughest stretches in college basketball, like, history or something like that. I don't know the specifics, but I know there is, you know, it's going to be tough from here on out, and it's really good that we're seeing, you know, them start to click, you know, especially in that Georgia game, like, with the 20 turnovers. They were still able to play, you know, pretty good defense in that game. You know, there was, you know, I think it was at the under 12 in the second half. They were in the huddle saying, you know, our goal was to hold them to under 70 points, and they ended up holding to 69. So if they can carry that defensive effort and clean up the turnovers a little bit, you, you know, I'm excited. And obviously we've talked about it all year, how this could be a team that makes a big run in the tournament, but it's going to be a tough stretch in the season. [00:05:56] Speaker B: Yeah, you know, but if there was a team that was built to take on a tough stretch like that, it would be a Nate Oats coach team. [00:06:02] Speaker C: Probably. [00:06:03] Speaker B: One of the two best things that I would say about Nate Oates as a coach is that he schedules extremely difficult, you know, out of conference games. And that's fantastic, because then when you get to the end of the year, when things start getting tough, when things start going sideways or you get to the tournament, that's when your team starts playing the best, because they have been in that situation before. This is a team that went to unc, right, Gets that win. There's so, like, that's one of the things that I love about NATO as a coach. Besides that, and just the system that he plays, being so easy to recruit for. Everybody wants to play in a system like that. You know, I was kind of interested. Obviously, you know, this is one of the hardest stretches, but everything that happened with Mark Sears, NATO's comments after the game were very interesting. He said, I thought that was the hardest Mark Sears has played. He had some turnovers, but he sprinted back and made tough plays on defense. He didn't sulk, he didn't pout. That's what kind of, you know, I don't know what's going on there. That's a little you know, concerning. For me, that's definitely something you would. You know, it brings attention when that's something that, I mean, and that's a comment that is being put on the Alabama, like, basketball's like official, like the press release. So that's. That's interesting for me. But I do think that overall things are looking up for Alabama. We could potentially, like, could you imagine if we got an Iron bowl basketball? But like, you know, in the Final Four, you know, I won't say it for the national title. I mean, that would be. [00:07:38] Speaker C: It would be insane. You know, right now we're going to get two. We're going to get one in Tuscaloosa and one in Auburn and then possibly in the SEC tournament and then again in the NCAA tournament. Right now, I think it's projected three SEC teams as a number one seed. So, like they're. I think the last projection I saw was Auburn at the overall number one, then it was in between Duke and Alabama for the two and the three, and then Tennessee at the fourth. They were all seeing. So, you know, a bunch of people are predicting, you know, it never works out. I think there's only been one year where all number ones got in. But a bunch of people were saying you could get three SEC teams. If you ended up getting Alabama and Auburn in there and they could possibly match up for a fourth time this year, that would be insane, unfortunately. [00:08:18] Speaker D: I think if they do match up in the tournament for that fourth time, I actually am of the opinion the atmosphere won't be as good. It's probably going to be better in Tuscaloosa over at Auburn. Right. It might even be better in the SEC championship because that. Those Final Four tickets, I don't actually know how that works, that process. I'd imagine that you pay for that way in advance. And there's probably like a lot of out of conference fans that are going to be at that event. Provide a weird environment. [00:08:45] Speaker B: If there was one person who would know, that's our very. Adam Hambre, because he's like, what are you in the points list? [00:08:53] Speaker C: I'm in the. I think the last I checked it was 122. So, you know, I'm pretty high up. [00:08:58] Speaker B: Solid. [00:08:59] Speaker C: I got tickets last year, but just couldn't make the trip out to Arizona this year. If they make it to San Antonio, I'm going. I'm driving. [00:09:08] Speaker D: Oh, it's in San Antonio. [00:09:09] Speaker B: Oh, man. Okay. That. Yeah, I would definitely go to that just because, you know, big San Antonio. [00:09:14] Speaker C: I do agree with you on the atmosphere thing, because when it does get to the Final Four, you know, it's. You usually put in a football stadium and you know, it's. You get a lot of people in there. But I like it better when it's at, like an actual arena built for basketball, like at Coleman. I've never been to Auburn, but apparent, like, I can't afford to get tickets to Auburn. You know, they, they, they have those extremely high. Because, you know, it's a Cracker Jack box down there. [00:09:36] Speaker D: Oh, I mean, or alternatively, you could jump in that line and get trampled along the fence line. I saw that that's what had happened at that, that one event or whatever. [00:09:44] Speaker C: That was for a college game day a couple weeks ago when they had Tennessee in town and they decided that it was too cold, so they did not allow any students to camp out before. And then they just opened the gates and had like, it was like a sealed off, like, sidewalk. And then some people got, you know, ran over, had to get taken to the hospital. So, you know, maybe just let them camp out like they've been doing. [00:10:06] Speaker B: Man. Yeah, I will not comment. [00:10:09] Speaker D: No. [00:10:10] Speaker B: If I speak. Yeah, if I speak. Big trouble. [00:10:15] Speaker D: I'll go back to your Mark Sears comment, though. I think we're reading a little bit too much into this. I think the general media at large is largely at fault for always blowing these kind of quotes out of proportion. That's what the media does. When you look at him statistically, I just see this as a small slump, just a little hitch in the road. When you look at last season to this season, his shooting percentage has dropped 10%, which. That's from 50%, which is a very, very high clip. [00:10:45] Speaker B: It's like unsustainable. [00:10:46] Speaker D: It's completely unsustainable down to 40. And if you're expecting that kind of like reproduced success, you're lying to yourself because not every player is going to be able to maintain that. And now that Alabama has such a larger influx of talent, you know, he's having to distribute the ball a little bit more and he's going to probably take less shots. And that means that if he misses more, his percentage will go down. His assists have gone up a little bit, but I think it's mainly just targeted. He was struggling, you know, shooting the ball. You know, sometime even in the NBA, you see this. You got to give the players a little bit of a break. Put them in the bench, bring them off the bench or something. Let them get their. Just let them get their shot back. Right. Let them get back in that groove. I'm sure he'll be back in the starting lineup in no time. [00:11:24] Speaker C: And, you know, there was two instances of this. So you had the game in Birmingham against Illinois back in December, and in that one, you know, he didn't score the entire game. I don't think he played the second half. But I remember after that game, the report was, you know, he took himself out of the game. You know, it was one of those. Put the people in that have the better best chance of winning. And then you had the second time that this happened where he was struggling shooting the ball like as much as he was in that game. You know, Nate Oates probably saw something he didn't like. He said he was saying in this time, in this last game, you know, he wasn't sulking or anything. So he probably just saw a reaction that he did not see in that game against Illinois. And then he was like, I can't let this affect the rest of the season, so just go ahead and bench him now and then kind of get him refocused for the rest of the season for those SEC and NCAA tournament games coming up. And so, you know, obviously if it starts happening again, you know, then it's a bigger deal. But, you know, I'm with Elliot, you know, I think it's just not really that big. I think it was just trying to send a message to him and to the team and just kind of get him refocused for this stretch. [00:12:25] Speaker B: Well, and it's a real luxury to be able to take somebody who is, you know, projected to be, like, in contention for player of the year in all of college basketball and to be able to, you know, sit him down and you're still winning games pretty easily, but just because of how loaded this team is, depth wise and you know, that it ties back into the whole. Like, this might be the year, you know, knock on wood. But this kind of. [00:12:49] Speaker D: What is it? [00:12:50] Speaker B: I don't know. Some kind of. Some kind of dark wood looks. It looks very nice. We'll say that the new furniture. [00:12:56] Speaker D: We'll do some investigating, some investigative. [00:12:59] Speaker B: At some investigative journalism. I don't even know where to go from. That's hilarious. Okay, so I think. What. What are we. Yeah, we should be good. Okay. When we come back, we're going to talk Ryan Grub, obviously, new offensive coordinator at Alabama. Well, again, rehired. Re hired, as Elliot pointed out, and even more so. We'll be right back here on 90.7 Capstone. This show is a sports production of WVUAFM 90.7 the Capstone. A division of student media at the University of Alabama support us by leaving a review rating or following us on X at WVUAFM Sports. Welcome back into the low tide here on 90.7, the Capstone. Nicholas Elliot. Adam, as always, we're gonna try and be a little more, you know, precise. Right. You know, we're getting back into the flow of things. You know, everything. The gentleman did some, and I quote, wood analysis during the break. What was the consensus? [00:14:25] Speaker C: We're thinking it's maple. You know, it was. Or what was that? Was it? [00:14:28] Speaker D: No, I think it was walnut. [00:14:30] Speaker C: Let's. Let's pull the thing. Yeah. [00:14:32] Speaker B: Fake news. [00:14:33] Speaker C: Yeah. Maple. You know, it's a little bit less grainy. So walnut with the grain. We're thinking it's walnut. That was like our two, you know, it was in between. But we're gonna go with walnut on this one. [00:14:43] Speaker B: Bringing you the news that matters. Beautiful new furniture here in the all new WVUAFM studio that is slowly but surely coming together, we hope. Okay, so Ryan Grubb reunited with Kalyn DeBoer back in Tuscaloosa. Obviously, they had hired him right before he up and left for the Seahawks OC job, but Ryan Grubb, this is a guy who's followed, you know, Caleb DeBoer pretty much everywhere. Sioux Falls, Fresno State, Washington, all over. First broken by Alabama. The nil collective of Alabama, really, I think very solid. You know, another pickup. It's, you know, kind of like we were saying before we came on the air, this is what should have been. Right. [00:15:31] Speaker D: This is what was expected to happen, you know, way back when. And I mean, to the point of where they had actually hired him. And then he dropped out of that hiring process in order to be the Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator. I mean, I don't know. I mean, there's nothing, in my opinion, that's super riveting about this. This was just expected. I would like to see the Alabama players in Ryan Grubb's offensive system, but, I mean, that's all we can wait for. There's really nothing else to comment on that. Washington, obviously, when he was over there, well oiled machine. I'm not going to comment on his tenure as the Seahawks offensive coordinator because that was a bit of a one and done situation. But, I mean, this move was to be expected the minute he got fired. [00:16:14] Speaker C: So. [00:16:15] Speaker D: No, no surprises on my end. [00:16:17] Speaker C: Yeah. And, you know, this, this combo, right, this grub and deboer combo, they've been working together since 2007. So they literally worked from 2007-20 until, you know, he took that Seattle job when he was going to come here. He was at Alabama for like 20 minutes and then took the Seattle job. And then, you know, this year in Seattle, you know, Geno Smith had his best statistical year, you know, passing wise and everything. So, I mean, it was, you know, some stuff worked. Obviously Seattle wanted to move in a different direction going forward. He gets fired. Deboer able to pick him up. What does this mean for Nick Sheridan? Does he go back to being the tight ends coach, which was what he was, you know, projected to be, you know, last year? You know, Sheridan kind of just gets thrown at. In on at the offensive coordinator position and, you know, at times, you know, it worked. There were some times where it was like, maybe, you know, he's just a little too inexperienced to really know what to do with this roster, you know, especially when he wasn't really projected to be like he. He did not expect to be the offense coordinator until all of a sudden it's like, oh, Grubb just took this other job. So we'll see how the rest of this, you know, situation works out. Because also you had Sheridan and Shepard, they were both listed as co offensive coordinators. [00:17:31] Speaker B: Right. And that wouldn't shock me to see if that. Something very similar happened. [00:17:35] Speaker C: And so now with Grub coming back, who's going to be the quarterback? Like, it's already the question who's going to be the quarterback? I think this might give a little bit more leaning into Austin Max, since, you know, they were there part that recruited him to Washington to begin with. Obviously you got Keelan Russell there. You know, some people still think Ty Simpson is going to start. I don't know. I think now it really looks like to me that it's going to end up being either Austin Mack or Keelan Russell if he really shows out in the spring. But I'm, you know, I'm excited. You know, this is. This is who I wanted last year and then it just didn't work out. So now getting, you know, who DeBoer has relied on for the last, you know, 20 years, basically, you know, it's going to be good. You know, I think with this first full off season with the recruits that have been able to come in with the additions in the transfer portal and now getting Ryan Grubb back on the staff, I think this, it's looking good for the Alabama offense at least going forward. [00:18:29] Speaker D: Yeah. To provide a little more clarity into like Seattle's situation offensively last season, it does say that they were 14th overall in the NFL total offense, which, I mean, that's middle of the pack. That's not bad by any stretch. But I think the biggest thing to keep your eye on is that they were eighth in passing yards. So as Adam pointed out, Geno Smith's best statistical year passing the ball. However, rushing, 28th in the NFL, pretty low. And I think this is a little, we saw a little bit of this with Alabama this past season. The running backs, they just did not, it seems like there was a lot of times they just did not run the ball with the running backs. And you think about who Seattle has as a running back. You have Zach Charbonnet, you have Kenneth Walker the third, right. And you're only averaging 95 yards a game. That kind of stinks. And so I actually do not anticipate like that philosophy that we've seen from Alabama where it was, it seemed like it was a little bit more probably now with Milroe out, right. They did a lot of option stuff, but depending on who the quarterback is, probably a more pass heavy offense that we're going to see instead of a run heavy offense. [00:19:40] Speaker B: Yeah, 100%. I mean, Seahawks had the fifth worst run game in the entire league, but one of the best passing offenses, you know, Ryan Grubb, in his nine years as an offensive coordinator, he's had offenses that have gone over 400 yards per game average six times. And that Washington offense that went all the way to the national title game, they averaged over 515 yards a game. I mean, that's some serious offensive output. And it's going to be very exciting, you know, now that the dynamic duos back together, right? It's going to be exciting to see what a real Caitlin DeBoer, Ryan Grubb offense, what the Alabama under Kalyn DeBoer starts to look like. Right? Because now you're finally starting to get past all of the problems that you had from last year of, you know, you had to bear all the difficulties that an open season on your players brings while you get to not get anybody from the transfer portal yourself. You know, you kind of have to piece together the existing or hold together the existing recruiting class, which I thought he did a nice job of. But you know, now you're finally going to have some of those guys that, you know, He, Ryan, Calen, DeBoer recruited and even Ryan Grubb did a little bit of recruiting before he, you know, while he was here for 15 minutes before he took the Seahawks job. But it's really going to be interesting to see what this offense looks like. I am scared about the run game. I'll be 100% real with you. Alabama has struggled in the run game the past couple years, especially this last season. There were times when, like, it looked like they got completely stuck, right? It was, oh, if Milroe can't run the ball, the whole offense can't open up. Nobody can run the ball. Okay, we got a big problem. Right? So it will be interesting to see what happens. It's definitely going to be very interesting moving forward. I'm excited to see what's going to happen. I think this is a good move, but this is what should have happened altogether. But now you're finally getting all the pieces back together and it could work out well because, you know, now Ryan Grubb gets to come in. He doesn't have have to deal with the, you know, maybe in that first season, if it was, you know, him leading this offense from this past season, maybe it was a rougher year and the fan base was a little more turned down. Now he gets to come in, fresh slate, get to see what happens. Should be an exciting year. [00:21:54] Speaker D: Retweet. [00:21:57] Speaker B: Okay, so we want to talk about gymnastics a little bit. [00:22:00] Speaker C: Yeah, we can. We can hit up on gymnastics. So obviously gymnastics started a few weeks ago. We did our first show or our last show, I think right after the first gymnastics meet where they had beat North Carolina and Tuscaloosa. Since then, three meets which they did lose, they had at Kentucky. They had Oklahoma, the number one team in gymnastics for basically the last however many years. Obviously, they haven't won the championship every year, but Oklahoma right now is ranked number one. And then they had a game or a meet at Georgia where they fell 196.975 to 196.575. Georgia also ranked number 12. Right now. All this is based off of their average scores for the year. So they currently have. We're still waiting on the new, like, ranking to come out once they average everything out. But they have LSU in Tuscaloosa this Friday. Need to really bounce back. They have the losses, like I was telling some people in the room, you know, during. It only really matters for that SEC Championship. This will not affect them going to, you know, regionals or anything like that. You know, when it's all that's based off their average scores. But in this one, after the three last meets that they've had, they've scored higher in each one they, they've had, they had a little bit of illness with Kentucky and Oklahoma. You know, some people not 100% had to count some falls and people just not being, you know, as tight as they usually are in their routines. And then, you know, they scored their second highest score of the season against Georgia. It's always tough to score higher on the road, but, you know, they, they ended up having a pretty solid performance. You know, I would like to see like a little bit higher, especially now that we do have to compete against Oklahoma. We had the meet against them. Obviously we'll have to compete against them again later in the season at secs or possibly, you know, trying for a national championship. But in this one they also had. Gabby Gladio secured her fourth event title of the season. Scored a 99 for fourth consecutive 99 or higher score of the year. Lily Hudson claimed the all around title in this past one. I'm sorry, I can't struggle to pronounce her name all the time. But Chloe made her career debut in the all around finishing third with a 39.175. And Gabby Ladanyi earned a career high score on the balance being with 9875. So things are turning around. After the last couple meets, everybody's getting back to 100%. We did have Cameron Machado, who was a grad student, had not played, had not competed so far this year, did announce that she is medically retiring for gymnastics. So sad news. Hopefully she will, you know, be all right going forward. But you know, as for this season, they have LSU this week, then they have a quad meet with Missouri, Illinois, Iowa. I would expect them to start, you know, getting some of those higher scores that we've been used to seeing in years past going forward. [00:25:08] Speaker B: Yeah, 100%. So good. A lot of good things for Alabama women's gymnastics. I think they're moving forward in the right way. Hopefully we'll have a big postseason performance. Do want to touch quickly on Alabama women's basketball? Obviously the last time that we were on there, they had just suffered that pretty bad loss to Texas. Don't look at the score. Bounce back with a win over Ole Miss, they fell to South Carolina, who came here. The score is deceiving. This game was much closer than the 76, 58 scoreline. [00:25:43] Speaker C: That was a five point game in. [00:25:45] Speaker B: The fourth quarter, was a very good game. That's back to back years that they have played South Carolina pretty well. They're going to get them one of these one of these years. Arkansas they get a big win over there. Disappointing loss to Vanderbilt by two. Close one lose to Kentucky. But they did bounce back today actually with a 7257 win over Georgia. See here Aaliyah Nye, 22 points on the night. She's had a fantastic year. 6 for 10 from 3, Cody Essence or sorry, Essence. Cody dropped 17. Another good performance from her. Very solid performance from Alabama. Women's basketball looks like they could have a pretty solid run in the off season this. [00:26:31] Speaker C: Or, Sorry. [00:26:32] Speaker B: In the postseason this year. Alvin. Women's basketball has been on the come up in the last couple years. Better and better recruiting classes. You love to see it. [00:26:41] Speaker C: Yeah, I think, you know, one thing about, you know, this, this last stretch they've had that was a little disappointing, you know, at least for me. You know, Sarah Ashley Barker, she had missed, you know, a few games with the lower leg injury and she, she was out for that South Carolina game. You know, it was five point game in the fourth quarter. We're sitting here thinking, you know, maybe if Sarah Ashley Barker had been in, maybe she could have, you know, gave a little bit more leadership for the team out on the floor. Then they missed the. That was our update for that Darren Fox trade that just happened. [00:27:12] Speaker D: But coming live from 90.7, the Caps. And we're breaking NBA news as well in the Low Tide. [00:27:18] Speaker C: But yeah, but then, so they, they beat Arkansas by 32 and Sarah Ashley Barker finally comes back from that injury, has 36 points. I believe it was against Vanderbilt where they lost by two because nobody else could really score that night. It was really just Barker, you know, leading the charge. And then they go to Kentucky, lose that one. And so it was, you know, I think they should have beat the, they should have won the game against Vanderbilt, the Kentucky game, you know, Kentucky really handled it, you know, for the majority of that game. Alabama made like a little bit of comeback in that fourth to make it, you know, just a nine point loss. But, you know, played well against Georgia today. Hopefully they can, you know, keep going forward. I know after that South Carolina game, you know, Don Staley gave a lot of credit to Christy Curry and when she had built at Alabama. And you know, it's good to see the women's team, you know, playing this well. But three losses out of the last five games, you know, has got me a little bit worried going forward. But you know, I think they, you know, that win today against Georgia, hopefully that, you know, rights the ship. [00:28:16] Speaker B: Hopefully you can close out the regular season strong and get moving on the right end. So I think that's going to be it for this segment when we come back. Obviously, it's beef of the week. What else would we do here on the low tide? I promise, no more wood analysis. Going to. We're going to strike all that down. [00:28:31] Speaker C: More weather. No weather. [00:28:33] Speaker B: Yeah, we've put. Well, brother weather. And Elliot. Yeah, just. We put Elliot on a complete weather ban. [00:28:43] Speaker D: Weather band. [00:28:44] Speaker B: It's a weather band, first of all. [00:28:45] Speaker D: Okay. Punxsutawney Phil. Okay. I don't know if you guys saw it. Today is groundhog day. All right. I actually don't know if he saw his shadow or not. Does somebody check? [00:28:54] Speaker B: I'm cutting his mic. [00:28:55] Speaker C: Whichever one's the 6, 4. [00:28:56] Speaker B: He did see his shadow. [00:28:57] Speaker D: He did see his shadow. [00:28:58] Speaker B: So I think that means. [00:28:59] Speaker D: So as a weather report, expect six more weeks of winter. [00:29:03] Speaker B: Oh, thank you. Thank you. I don't know where. [00:29:05] Speaker D: Thank you. Punxsutawney Phil, shout out to you. [00:29:07] Speaker C: Use one of those buttons over there. I don't know which one we should. [00:29:09] Speaker B: Use, but the one that mutes his mic maybe. Okay, we'll be back with beef of the week here on the low tide. [00:29:30] Speaker A: When the game is on the line. Championship teams know the game plan. They communicate and work together to win. We all need a game plan to protect ourselves online. Talk to family and friends so they know how to stay safe, too. Create strong passwords, turn on multi factor authentication update software and recognize and report phishing. Because online safety is not something you want to fumble. Get more game winning [email protected] secure our world, then share them with family and friends. [00:30:14] Speaker B: Welcome back into the low tide here on 90.7 the Capstone. Nicholas Adam Elliott for the last 10 minutes or so. Obviously it's beef of the week. It's always beef of the week. It always will be. It always has been. It will never go away until we decide that we need to have it go away and then bring it back. Just like they do with Roman reigns all the time. Okay, speed of the week. I'll start. The royal rumble was last night, obviously one of the biggest events of the year for wwe. That is extremely hot right now. Probably hotter than they ever have been, especially towards more mainstream audiences recently. Getting on Netflix, that's massive. You get to, you know, probably 80 million homes all over the. [00:30:54] Speaker C: All over. [00:30:55] Speaker B: Not only the country, but the world. Big time for them. The royal rumble, obviously, you know, 30 men or women enter. Last one to not be thrown over the top rope wins. You get a wrestlemania title shot, guaranteed. You're going to be in the main event of WrestleMania. So last night Jey Uso eliminated John Cena who was in his final Royal Rumble ever to win. And you know, he will go on to, I believe, challenge Gunther for the World heavyweight championship at WrestleMania, probably night one, as you would expect. I hated this decision because I was at Saturday night's main event the previous week before where Jay USO challenged Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship and lost pretty convincingly. It was kind of close at one point, right? Lost pretty convincingly. It's pretty obvious that they're going for just this feel good moment where Jay's going to win on night one, you know, and he's going to do the whole yeet thing, right? Love to see it. Maybe it was the right decision to not have Cena win. You've got to have him go through some, you know, struggle to finally get there. I don't think he's going to win. I think he's going to make it to Mania and get to Russell Cody, but I think he's going to lose. And then they're going to. Because it's a whole farewell year, not just, you know, three. And if he won the title that easily, you know, it wouldn't, it wouldn't be worth it to get the record setting the 17th title, but the final three, absolute garbage. It was Cena, Jey Uso and Logan Paul. And if that doesn't tell you everything that you need to know about that, I won't, I won't even say anymore. It was a little frustrating. I feel better about it 24 hours later. But that's, I'd say that's my view for the week. [00:32:35] Speaker C: Okay, I guess I'll go second. I'll give, I'll let Elliot close us out. He's always got something good. But you know, mine, you know, mine has something to do with Alabama basketball, but it's not about actual Alabama basketball. So whenever you go to Coleman Elliot. Yes, I have. My beef is Elliot every, every day. [00:32:55] Speaker D: Every day I live when we don't. [00:32:58] Speaker C: Talk, I'm like, I can't believe Elliot said that. Anyway, not really, but you go to Colvin Coliseum, you're watching a basketball game, they have a couple of different competitions like throughout and you know, you have, you know, the, the Whataburger where they're, you know, guessing which container has the fries in that everybody, like almost anybody ever lost. I think they lost it this week. I think the person just said the wrong number. But usually they do not. Then you have the, the full moon shoot for the moon thing where, you know, they give them 30 seconds to make the layup, the free throw, the three point and the half court, and nobody helps you get your own rebound. So that, that's one thing. But here's the big issue, right? You. There was something that started this year and that hasn't really. There was two things, right? If they make 15 three pointers in a game at home, you get something from dominoes. And then if you they. If the opposing team misses two free throws on the same possession in the second half, you get a free order of Gooey fries from Bombhowers. [00:33:59] Speaker B: Okay, so just so we're clear, this means like they like get two free throws and they have to miss them both consecutively? [00:34:03] Speaker C: Yes. That's be like the same possession. [00:34:05] Speaker B: Right? [00:34:06] Speaker C: And it happened earlier this season, right? I have, I have the receipt right here because I always take advantage of this when it happens because it doesn't happen that often. Oklahoma missed back to back free throws. So, you know, you send the code in to the, to the number they give you and it says, oklahoma missed back to back free throws tonight. So you win one free order of gooey fries. I got the little coupon, went to Baumhower's, had my order. So then this week happened in the Georgia game, actually happened twice. Like, basically like the first guy missed two, the next guy that went missed two. [00:34:40] Speaker D: So really there should have been two orders. [00:34:42] Speaker C: Should have been two orders. But get this, send the code in. Georgia missed back to back free throws night. So you win one free small order of gooey fries. That is outrageous. [00:34:54] Speaker B: Shrinkflation. [00:34:56] Speaker C: You went from, you know, just a regular order, and now it's just a small order. And they missed more free throws in this one. I'm just like, what, what is happen? [00:35:04] Speaker D: Fry gate is a real thing and there's really no explanation for this. I think Baumhowers needs to explain. [00:35:10] Speaker B: Look, I called out, famously, I called out whataburger, the one over there on I don't even know over there by Lark, where I now live on like one of the first episodes of the show. It did fix. So are you officially calling out Bomb. [00:35:24] Speaker C: Howard, calling him out like, you can't give us a regular order of gooey Fries. And then when more free throws are missed and later you're like, actually, that was too much. You get a small order of gooey. Just give us Frygate. Oh, this is, this is insane. [00:35:40] Speaker B: I'm livid, you know, and this is like, you know, this is like politics, right? I'm in a free open mic to Baumhowers to explain the situation here to clear the air. Yeah, yeah, maybe they'll. Yeah, they're totally going to hit us up. You got to let us know if they fix this issue. [00:35:58] Speaker C: They probably won't, but you know, it makes me feel better being able to talk about it. [00:36:02] Speaker D: Thanks God. I am living on your behalf, Adam. Okay, as much as we may disagree on this show and however much I may live rent free in your head when it comes to my weather reports, I'm upset for you. I just hope you know that from the bottom of my heart. [00:36:16] Speaker C: Thank you. I needed that. [00:36:17] Speaker D: You're welcome. Now mine is a bit of an interesting story. Okay, There's a couple of facets to this. All right, so just for context, I am a senior. I am in my capstone semester for the MIS program, which basically means I have an uber hard project with the team. I happen to be a project manager. Obviously, whenever I get to be in the building until 9:00 at night, I want to go out and eat dinner. At some point, me and a couple of the other project managers and some people, we go out to. I'm going to call someone out. Buffalo Philz, you're on my list. Okay, so we go over there. Service atrocious. It was pitiful. Okay. We sat there for an hour and a half and the place wasn't even full. It was. It wasn't even full. I get my Philly cheesesteak. [00:37:07] Speaker B: Hold on, Just. Just so we're clear here, what time and like what day of the week? [00:37:10] Speaker D: This was on a Thursday night? No, no, this was a Wednesday. This was a Wednesday night and it was at seven. [00:37:17] Speaker C: Wow. [00:37:19] Speaker D: There was like really not that many people there. The place was not full. An hour and a half. Okay. I order a Philly cheesesteak. And my good friend Nate, he also ordered a Philly cheesesteak. We got our Philly cheesesteaks. The cheese on top is not melted. I can still see the square. Okay. Thank you for the sound effect. It was needed. It wasn't that good. Okay. It just wasn't that good. That's fine. That's okay. I've had bad food before. But you know what? I get into Thursday, I'm like, man, you know what? I'm not feeling so hot. And I contact my buddy Nate. He's like, you know what, man? I'm not feeling so hot either. I took a nose dye. Okay. Just absolutely tanked. Okay. Pretty sure I had food poisoning or I got some sort of stomach bug of some variety from them. Okay, Terrible. I spent from that Thursday through that Sunday. Out of those 96 hours, I spent 40 of them sleeping on my bathroom floor. Unlike Nick, who is the wood aficionado, I have an appreciation for tile. Okay, because it's cold. Do you want to use another sound effect? He's preparing one. [00:38:19] Speaker B: I was waiting for the right one. I don't even know. [00:38:22] Speaker D: So, anyway, so this was terrible. Okay, but then we get into the second part of this story. Okay? So I'm dying. I am dead. I am lying. I am lying on my bathroom floor. Okay? I am delirious. I am dehydrated. Okay? It is awful. I'm going through every single possible emotion. I felt like I was doing inside out three for myself. And, you know, I'm looking at my phone through the. We have a project manager's chat and a dear friend of mine sends a message. And it was a meme of myself that just got randomly sent in this chat. And this is a still frame photo from a Google Drive folder that like 15 people have access to. And I know that she does not. Okay, now if you guys don't know, I am on IMDb, okay? I do have an IMDb profile because of my role as the detective in the Busby film A Toast of the Host. This still photo was taken as part of a Shannon Sharpe mock photo shoot that happens to be in that Google Drive folder. [00:39:32] Speaker B: I have seen this exact photo. I know what he's talking about. [00:39:35] Speaker D: This is. I have posted one of the still frames on my personal Instagram account. There is an edit of all of them on my Busby film if you want to check it out. He has great films, by the way. Award winning director Shout Out Logan Busby. But this particular photo, this particular still frame is nowhere to be found. This photo is only in that Google Drive folder. And I don't know how, I don't know who is my op and who leaked that photo, but Big Mis is out to get me on this one. And that is my full story. [00:40:08] Speaker B: 10 out of 10 that, you know, I. We always love a good Elliot story time because he's really gonna sell it. You know, I need more like soundboard buttons. [00:40:17] Speaker D: You do, you do. [00:40:18] Speaker C: I'll send you some. Some suggestions, you know. [00:40:21] Speaker B: Okay. [00:40:22] Speaker C: Add to it. [00:40:22] Speaker B: Yeah, we definitely will. [00:40:24] Speaker D: I hope you guys enjoyed that story. [00:40:26] Speaker C: It was good. [00:40:26] Speaker B: It was good. It was solid. Very solid. I'm sorry. I'm sad that you had a bad experience at Buffalo Philz, because I feel like, you know, I'll be the Buffalo Phil's defender. [00:40:34] Speaker C: You know, I. I like buffalo film, but I only go there at like, noon. Like, I'm. I'm an early guy special. Yeah. [00:40:41] Speaker B: You know, gotta take advantage, you know. [00:40:44] Speaker D: And it sucks, man. I'm locked up in that. In that aim building all day. Okay. [00:40:48] Speaker C: Slaving away, Cody, with the little dolphins in there. [00:40:52] Speaker D: Yeah, my dolphins. Okay. Which I did get my dolphins back. Okay. No thanks to the people who tried to steal them from me. That's a whole different situation. So people are trying to steal my. [00:41:01] Speaker B: Dolphins out of my car right now. But I took this with permission. I did not kidnap the dolphins. It'd be funny if I just pulled it out of my pocket. I was like, it's with me right now. [00:41:14] Speaker D: Look, okay, look, there are a lot of dolphins and obviously people who I know are avid animal lovers, such as Nick. He takes care of the dolphin. Right. There are some bad actors out there who. They just want the dolphins for their own personal gain and benefit, and I just think that's wrong. [00:41:34] Speaker B: Is this a rant about, like, the dolphins are like SeaWorld? [00:41:39] Speaker C: I'm surprised this didn't turn into another weather thing, you know, with climate change. [00:41:42] Speaker B: No, that's banned. That's banned. [00:41:44] Speaker C: Weather. [00:41:44] Speaker B: Weather content is banned on this show. That's only from Elliot. Oh, I feel like Adam could do a weathered segment. It's a bit Adam. [00:41:54] Speaker D: Anything about the weather? It has warmed up recently. [00:41:57] Speaker B: Yeah, this is the part. It's just insta sensor. I just cut his mic off. That's going to do it for us here on the low tide. Thanks for listening. [00:42:06] Speaker D: Good night. Tri State area, as always.
